RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT SAME-SEX FAMILIES AND GIVING ADVICE TO LGBT WANNABE PARENTS
Figures realised by the ONS show that in 2014 families come in all different shapes and sizes and that is certainly going to continue as single men and women as well as same-sex couple are exploring ways in which to start a family. Ten years ago the idea that a gay person could start a family was an unrealistic objective for many. I'm pleased that is changing. Alternative Parenting Week helps give advice for would-be mums and dads battle through the minefield of having children, and will help raise awareness of different families.

• Out with the Family's London Zoo | Sunday 14 September
Alternative Parenting Week 2014 launches at Out with the Family's London Zoo trip Sunday 14 September. The day out is aimed at same-sex families and their friends and will include entry to London Zoo, lunch and activities for kids and adults throughout the day. The week concludes at the Alternative Parenting Show on Saturday 20 September. An established exhibition with advice and exhibitors which give information on alternative ways to start a family. more info
• Alternative Parenting Documentary: Launched on-line on Sunday 14 September
Out with the Family documentary is narrated by David Furnish. Produced by Square Peg Media. the 40-minute documentary on different families will be launched here on Sunday 14 September.
